Summer Dessert, Anyone? These Grilled Peaches are a Great Idea!

Hello everyone! My first #SweetTreatFriday post on my brand new blog! I couldn't be more excited about this! I think I promised this recipe a couple of weeks ago, so I'm posting it today!

I was getting kind of tired of not being able to express my full ideas on Instagram. As much as I love posting #recipes there, some topics required a more extensive approach and felt like I had to keep my words to a minimum amount of words.

I have been on a peach quick lately, but I mean, who wouldn't? This fruit is so juicy and sweet that it's impossible to resist! Aside from the amazing flavor and versatility, they are also nutrient dense! Like I've mentioned in previous posts, many fruits and veggies are opaqued by some fruits that have recognized antioxidative properties. The big majority of fruits and veggies provide us with antioxidants, even if certain nutrition apps or websites claim that only a small number of them do. There are a variety of antioxidants that we can obtains from eating as many fruits and veggies as possible, since they have different plant pigments that are the ones who have the antioxidant power.

Peaches aren't the exception, they do provide us with polyphenols and carotenoids. Also, a fun fact about these antioxidants in peaches. Often times I get the question if storing any fruits (not just peaches) in the freezer might reduce their micronutrient content and antioxidants. I read an article about peaches whether their nutrition profile (including antioxidants) changed after freezer time or pasteurization. If stored for a long period of time in the freezer (1 year) there is a slight decrease in their nutrition content but pasteurization does reduce significantly their nutrition content. This means that if you find that frozen fruits can be an affordable option, you can go ahead and buy them since you can keep the majority of the nutrients if stored for a shorter period of time! I thought it was interesting, hope you found it interesting too!

Aside from that, they are also rich in fiber and vitamin C. It contains other micronutrients like: vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin K, niacin, potassium, copper and manganese.

All I'm trying to say, is that several fruits and veggies that are more affordable, also provide us with diverse health benefits. So, don't feel like you can't achieve optimal health because the so called "superfoods" are out of your budget! Buy the produce that you can afford and by adding more produce to your diet you will be obtaining so many health benefits!

So, now let's grill these peaches for a yummy summer dessert!

Ingredients:

  • 5 - 6 peaches (make sure they're ripe, otherwise they will not be as sweet)

  • 2 teaspoon of raw honey

  • 1/2 teaspoon lime juice

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method:

  • Mix the honey, lime juice and cinnamon in a small bowl

  • Slice the peaches in half, remove the seed and place them on a baking sheet.

  • With a pastry brush, rub the mixture on the peaches

  • Place them on the grill until soft

  • Serving suggestion: you can add a scoop of ice cream on top or yogurt of choice!
