My Personal Experience with a Workout Routine

Glad you are tuning in and reading this blog post!

I know that it seems like an obvious recommendation to include workouts in your daily routine, but is it always possible?

Throughout my career I have always motivated patients/clients to find a workout routine that works for them because I know the benefits this will bring to their health.

However, it is not always possible to follow workout/physical activity recommendations perfectly.

I was used to a workout routine that I absolutely loved! Many years back I found Barre classes and I truly looked forward to them. I started with online classes and then I went for in-person classes. Both were enjoyable for me, although in-person classes taught me proper postures and somehow were a little tougher too.

I was getting used to a routine of 6-7 days worth of workouts. Which felt amazing since I would feel more energized, strong, full of endorphins and of course the physical looks were also an incentive.

Given some life changes I am going through I was not able to keep up with my usual routine. That said, I felt unmotivated and had low energy levels which did not help me pick up a new workout routine.

Coming from a weekly "perfect" workout badge to barely moving throughout the week made me feel guilty and experience some kind of fear for my health.

One of my motivations to keep daily movement involved improving my physical and mental health. Given that my "new schedule" I did not feel successful. Felt like I was giving up on my health.

I have to admit, after feeling this way and having so many mental obstacles on the way, it was hard to start a new routine.

I hope that by sharing these thoughts you can probably relate to my story and know that you are definitely NOT alone.

Here are a few tips I want to share that have helped me:

  • As the Apple Watch (or other watch you use) is soooo cool and I love it, I try not to feel guilty or allow those messages to get to me. If you don't always close the three rings or your exercise ring, it is OK.

  • If there are life changes that modify your workout routine, figure out a time during the day where you can squeeze a 30-45 min workout. For example, I used to workout in the evenings as I went to Pure Barre Classes. However, this was not possible for me while following other tasks. I figured out that every time I came home from work I felt exhausted and the least I wanted to do was a workout. That said, I focused on incorporating my workouts first thing in the morning.

  • Including movement in your day requires you to find out what you truly enjoy. I know it sounds very cliché but, this is a very important aspect to notice. We are not all made fo

r the same kind of movement. I am definitely not good for sports and do not know how to create routines at the gym. With this information I figured I need

ed to sign up for classes that taught me what to do. There are several places that offer free trial classes, so don't feel overwhelmed with the cost. There are other apps like Class Pass that can also help reduce the price for certain classes, as some studios/gyms can be a little pricier.
