How to Avoid the Yo-Yo Diets During Summer

I know summer is such a fun time during the year. You can travel, have pool days, BBQs and many more activities.

But have you ever felt self-conscious about the way you look wearing a swimsuit?

Believe me, I know how you are feeling. I have spent years and years thinking and criticizing me for not having the "perfect abs" or the "best shaped legs".

Have you ever looked at pictures of you in a swimsuit and immediately think these kind of things? Definitely these are very common thoughts!

Unfortunately, thinking this way will make you think of "instant" ways to reach the "bikini beach body" goals.

These measures involve severe caloric restriction, extreme workout routines, food group elimination and many unsustainable actions.

This cycle can lead to low energy levels, sugary food cravings, micronutrient deficiencies and a terrible relationship with food.

As a professional I can say that these ways are not sustainable and will not allow you to reach your goals.

I don't blame or judge you for feeling this way, I have felt it too. But due to the diet culture that we have been surrounded with, these actions have been normalized.

To get out of this cycle there are several things you can modify in order to reach your goals:

  • If you have a social gathering, allow yourself to eat the food that is served without feeling guilty

  • Avoid restricting foods before or during social gatherings because this will promote hunger and excessive food cravings that will not allow you to eat intuitively

  • On a regular basis include nourishing foods like: high fiber carbs, fruits/veggies, healthy fats and combine a mix between animal and plat-based protein sources

  • Find a type of movement that you enjoy. For some people it might be a routine at the gym but for others swimming, dancing, pilates, running, can sound more appealing

  • Focus on learning how to build balanced meals

Following these tips can put you on the right path to achieve your nutrition goals. It might not be the easy quick fix you might be looking for, but every step and effort counts. Trust me, every little win will add up and you will start seeing changes in yourself (not only physical).

Hope this information is valuable and helps you during summer. If you want more help on where to start, I am here for you!
